Pilots N Paws

Here's a really nice story for you Sunday. It's Pilots N Paws, a group of pilots who rescue animals from high-kill shelters and fly them to new homes. It's so cute, but a tearjerker so be warned:

Teddys 1st Birthday!

Teddy, my dog, is celebrating his 1st birthday this month. He has too many toys already, so we asked our friends to donate to the "Teddys Friends Donation Station." The donation station collected all sorts of items for the Alexandria animal shelter.

Thank you all for your donations! The animals will really appreciate the wonderful things you gave! The shelter appreciates help very much as they rely on our generous community of pet lovers to fund their cause. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

Here is what we, as a group, donated:

22 leashes
6 collars
Over 100 pounds of food!
56 toys
6 bowls
2 beds
28 bags of treats
12 bones
8 blankets
10 towels
2 crates

Thats a lot of stuff!

It's a POOL PARTY and you're dog is invited!

This Saturday, from 12-4, dogs all over Northern Virginia will be getting their swim on at human pools! Before the pools close for the season, bring your best friend with fur to swim his or her little heart out. Here is the invitation:

Hope to see you there! Teddy will be in the baby pool, he won't go in further than 1 foot. He's more of a socialite than a swimmer.

I'm a pet food snob.

Before becoming obsessed with pets, I never paid any attention to pet food. When I bought food for my cats, I tried to buy holistic food like Blue Buffalo but only because the bag was pretty and it looked healthy. I knew nothing.

Do you know whats in your pets food? If you want to, check out dogfoodanalysis.com - they have a 6 star rating system for dog food based on ingredients, preservatives, overall nutrition, etc. For example, Purina is a 2 and Orijen is a 6.

Now, I use a 5 star food that has no grains, no cancer-linked preservatives, and no shady recalls. Yes, better quality food is expensive. The one I buy is $42 for a 30 pound bag. BUT, I have to use 1/2 of the amount so the bag lasts much longer and is therefore, actually about the same price in the long run as the cheapo food.

If you want to learn more, e-mail me at info@teddysfriendspetcare.com. Or check out this insanely detailed report by a Harvard Law student. It's very accurate and well written.

Mo the Sailor

Meet Mo. He's a little guy with a big attitude and an even bigger heart.

Mo is comfortable with his manhood, he doesn't mind wearing clothes. I love this little shirt with the pirate on it,... how cute is he!?!

We recently visited the dog park and met up with Mo and his human mom, Megan. He loves swimming but will attach himself to her leg when he gets the chance. He loves latching on to people and will sit on your shoulder like a parrot if he can. I watched him once and he helped me do dishes and clean - the whole time perched on my shoulder.

If you see this little guy, say hello. He loves attention and is as sweet as could be. He is having some resentment issues with his leash at the moment, but he's working on it.

We love you Mo!
