Dog Day 2009 Costume Contest Winners

Thank you all for coming to Dog Day 2009. It was a blast and I can't wait to do it again. In fact, I'm already planning for our July 4th event. If anyone has any ideas for that event, please let me know. I can tell you that we will have it in the evening, serve plenty of cold beer, soda, and cookout style food, and a pageant for girl dogs called "Ms. American Pie." It's going to be a really fun event. Details to follow.

Here are the costume contest winners from Dog Day 2009. Mac won 1st place for his hula outfit, and Trader won Runner Up for his festive flamingo handmade bandanna.

Thanks again to everyone who attended!

One of these things is not like the other

I had to do this post even though I've already posted today because its just so darn cute.

Piper and Von Diesel and I play fetch sometimes with a little blue stuffed egg. Today I tossed the egg into the kitchen and Piper was gone for a little longer than usual. I didn't think much of it and continued playing with Diesel awaiting Pipers return. Then, around the corner, like a rush of wind, Piper came blazing through with a size 8 flip flop. Yep, she took my shoe from the kitchen and brought that back. I thought it was hilarious since she is literally about the same size as the shoe. And, she was just so proud of her find. She proudly handed it to me as if to say "Look what I found, isn't it cool!"

Haha..... I love my job.

Welcome Lilly, Officially the Youngest member of Teddys Friends

Meet Lilly. She is a 9 week old Cockerpoo with black fur and a white belly. She loves her belly and will roll over to show it to you immediately upon meeting her. Lilly loves belly rubs and already almost knows "sit".

I think she is the most innocent member of Teddys Friends because her only downfall at the moment is mouthing people and feet. Compared to the huge hole my dog just dug, Lilly is an angel. She has the tiniest teeth and the most lovable personality. Boy dogs, in case you are wondering, Lilly is dating someone at the moment, so back off... or she'll tell Fonzy and he'll kick butt.

Welcome Lilly!

Teddys Friends: Home of the rough coat Jack Russel club

Teddys Friends would like to welcome a cute and cuddly family of 3 Jack Russels: Roscoe (3 years), Scout and Teddy (puppies, 4 & 6 months).

These 3 adorable little fur-babies have a huge yard to run and play in, about 100 toys, and their own personal car seats. They are very spoiled and wouldn't have it any other way. Roscoe is so happy to have a little brother and sister to play with but sometimes he needs a break from their puppy-antics so he'll nap on the couch to relax.

Pictured above are Roscoe and Scout cuddling together and Teddy in his bed alone.

Welcome Roscoe, Scout, and Teddy!

Kyjen Egg Babies to the rescue...

The dogs at Teddys Friends wanted me to tell my readers that they each want an Egg Baby toy by Kyjen, and they want it now! They are amazing toys because there is no stuffing inside, only squeekable eggs! It’s the cutest thing and it’s great for mentally stimulating your dog. The dogs work really hard to get the babies out of the toy and then us humans put the eggs right back inside again.

Teddy (chocolate lab Teddy) aka Brown Teddy or Little Teddy, one of my daily clients, LOVES this thing. He destroyed so many toys until I found the red dinosaur for him and his dad. These toys last forever and Kyjen says that the specially designed plush fabric holds onto our human scent so they toys serve to comfort our canine companions while we are away too!

You can order these for your best friend from many websites out there or pick it up at any specialty dog store (not Petsmart or Petco though). If you want to get one for your dog baby, I’d suggest Dr. Foster and Smith .com because they have the dinosaur and the hedgehog right now for $6.99 which is half price.

Enjoy!

Feeling sleepy, zzzzzzzzzzz

My dog, Teddy, is the sleepiest dog you'll ever meet. He can sleep for 12 hours non-stop without moving. In the mornings once my husband goes to work, I let him nap in bed with me for a bit. We relax together until I get my first dog-client for the day. It's the best 30 minutes on earth, he's so snuggly. He's too lazy to jump on the bed so he'll sit next to me and whine until I pick him up and place him on the bed. Yeah, he's spoiled. If you see my husband around, don't tell him that Teddy is in the bed each morning. Shhh....it'll be our secret. :)

DOG DAY 2009

Are you going to be home on Saturday, the 25th from 11-2pm? Yes?!?!?!

Then come on over to the Halstead Courtyard for some fun and games for the doggies (and cats too). We'll have all sorts of companies giving away some really awesome goodies, like free grooming, gift certificates, gift baskets, even a pet psychic 90 minute reading! In addition, we'll be hosting a fabulous, world-famous pet photographer Stephanie Millner who will photograph your pet free of charge.

ALSO, any proceeds we do make will go to the Alexandria Animal Welfare League. They do amazing work right here in our community and they need people who love animals like us to support and encourage them.

Don't forget,...there is a costume contest for the Best Spring Costume, so whip out those sewing machines and get cracking on making a fantabulous costume for the event.

See you all there!

April showers bring May flowers

Another rainy day here at Teddys Friends Pet Care. All those pet accessories we buy for our dogs do come in handy this time of year. Check out the fashion on these pups. Is that dog couture their wearing? Doggie Karen, Vera Wagg, Neiman Barkus? Oh my!

Doublemint Twins

Ask and you shall receive, right? Well, we can prove that it works. Teddys Friends asked for more girls, and guess what? We got 2 super-cute long coat (aka 'broken coat') Jack Russels! Yay!

Ok, so, the one in the back is Esther and the one with the spots up front is Molly.

Let's have a contest to thank my loyal blog followers.

Whoever can guess Molly and Esthers favorite snuggle spot wins a free dog wash. Yep, that's right. I, Teddys Friends Pet Care, will personally take the winners dog to the new self-serve doggie wash, THE MUDDY MUTT, opening up near Shirlington Dog Park on or about May 1st for a FREE dog wash. Your pampered pooch will come home happy and smelling wonderful for you to enjoy, free of charge. All manual labor happily done by me. *Anyone personally associated with Molly and Esther is excluded from the contest.

E-mail me at info@teddysfriendspetcare.com with your answer and I'll announce the winner as soon as I have one. Answer will be provided and winner announced when contest is complete. Please, God don't let a huge dog win. GOOD LUCK!

Molly and Esther love to snuggle:
a) on the couch with their stuffed elephant
b) in the kitchen on the cold tile
c) in the bathtub when its still warm
d) in their doggie bed under the window

King of the Hill

We finally had some sun! The dogs had a great time today basking in the rays and meeting new friends at Shirlington Dog Park. The park is awesome, the city just put out huge mounds of mulch for spring and the dogs LOVE running up and down the hills.

Little Teddy (pictured above) was king for a day, take a look at him on his mountain! It's just the cutest thing.

The other picture (Little Teddy and Sophie) shows Sophie thinking "OMG they caught me" because I caught her helping Little Teddy dig a hole to China. The picture quality isn't the greatest but you can see it in her eyes that she's surprised. She's such a doll.

After all of that fun, the dogs were still asking for more so we invited Mac over, a super-cool Great Dane who can fit my dogs head in his mouth with very little effort. They chewed on bones and played inside for a bit. Now it's nap time and they're all tired out from a day of fun and friends. Happy Thursday!

Rain 2.0

Meet Piper (left) and Von Diesel (right), our first Dachshund friends. The are the shortest yet longest dogs in the 22302 zip code. Did you know that Dachshunds date back 600 years? Dachshunds make spectacular family pets and their breed name means "Badger Dogs" in German, since they were originally used to hunt badger. Piper and Diesel don't hunt these days, though they do like humans and yummy treats.

You'll notice in the picture that there is a hazy section where Pipers tail is. What is that? Is it a ghost, or maybe her dog aura? Nope, that is actually her tail. She whips that thing so fast that a camera can't catch it. haha. Diesel is a good boy and a big fan of belly rubs on his dog bed.

Welcome Piper and Diesel!

Rain rain go away...

Today was a rainy day at Teddys Friends. Our little dog friends don't really enjoy the rain but they have the cutest little raincoats and sweaters to keep their fur pretty. I can relate to that. My hair gets big, frizzy, and unmanageable in this kind of weather too.

Check out these little balls of cuteness Max and Maggie. If that hair gets any bigger, they'll be looking like Mariah Carey circa Tommy Mattola. These little cuties are not leaving home without their sweaters.

Who's ready for some football?

WE ARE ... PENN STATE ...

...Meet Ivy. Ivy is a dog with so much personality, she loves belly rubs, sleeping on the air conditioning grate, catching birds, and hot dogs. Ivy is a rescue dog that brought a weird personality quirk to the table. Well, two really.

For the 1st year after her adopters got her, she pooped on the road, or concrete, or driveways, or gravel. Anything really, just not grass. Also, she snorts like a pig. Seriously, its the funniest sound I've ever heard from a dog. Her vets think that her 1st family must have had farm animals because they can't figure out how she could have developed this snorting problem. She hails from Pennsylvania but plans to visit Virginia really soon. We can't wait for her to come south and join in the fun of Teddys Friends .

Hint: She is Teddy's cousin!

Happy Easter from Teddys Friends!

Put your bunny ears in, put your bunny ears out, put your bunny ears in and shake em all about.

Since we live in DC, I thought it would be appropriate to announce that the Obamas got their dog! And, did you know that there is a church in DC that allows dogs inside?!? Here is the link if you want to check it out...

***Teddys Friends Pet Care would like to wish you a Happy Easter! Yay Spring!***

Lean, Mean, Fighting Machine

Welcome Spartacus! Spartacus is the fastest little dog you'll ever meet. He's 20 pounds soaking wet and has the heart of a warrior. I've witnessed this little guy steal a huge stick from 5 bigger dogs in the dogpark and run away! He actually ran away and wouldn't give it back, and they couldn't catch him since he's so fast! Maybe he blinds the enemies with his gleaming white fur?

Spartacus is a warrior by day and a cuddler/mommas boy at night. We give this dog 2 paws up for his "don't mess with me" attitude and fire within.

3 Bugs in a Rug

Pictured from left: Little Teddy, Sophie, and Teddy

Well, it seems that the dogs are a little tired today. They played all morning and used teamwork to rip the head off of an innocent little pink hippo. The hippo is still functional, just a little woozy and has no recollection of the incident. We're going to go for a little mid-day stroll once they are rested but I couldn't resist putting this picture online because they are so adorable.
Happy Thursday!

Here she is,...Miss America

Teddys Friends would like to announce that we have crowned our first ever Miss Teddys Friends 2009! She has all of the qualities one wants in a pageant winner. She's leggy, brainy, friendly, talented, and most of all,... she got the look! Join us in giving a warm welcome to Sophie, a still-growing black lab who specializes in melting hearts! *cheers Sophie*

Honorable Mention

Teddy wants to give a shout out to this dog, Hercules, an active member of Alexandria He Man Woman Haters club. Their gang covers some high-profile territory when looking for honeys, PetSmart, Petco, etc. Ladies, this dog pulls his own supplies! Did you hear that? He shops for and carries his own groceries! That sled is full of dog food and snacks and toys and omg it reeks of manliness! Lets be honest, no woman would fill a cart like that, its so messy - he's obviously single. Anyway, Teddy and this beefcake want to express their sincere welcome to any girl who wants to join the club. Anyone, anyone, Bueller?

He-Man Women Haters Club

It's been brought to my attention that all of the dogs on our site are boys. Oh nowz. We need to get some girls here, STAT. I did a little supply and demand analysis and realized that perhaps we just need to do some good, old-fashion name dropping...

The President of the United States of America (like, hello, OBAMA!) is contemplating adding a golden-doodle to the White House. The first family loves that the breed is allergy-free, super-cute, and really smart. Well, the White House has nothin on us.To the female dogs out there, allow me to introduce you to an eligible bachelor. He is the most dignified, well-traveled golden-doodle in the DC area...TRADER!

Trader loves long walks, chasing deer, relaxing with his humans, and attracting attention for his luscious locks and svelte physique. He has quite the swagger and some serious moves, including a hilarious butt-flip demonstrated above. Ooops girls, actually, he's not 100% eligible. The dog in the picture is his girlfriend Annabelle. But she's in a different zip code so it doesn't count, right?

Here at Teddys Friends, we have all the Supermen a girl could want. Won't you join our club?

Dog found 4 months after it fell overboard!

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20090406/ts_afp/australiaanimaldogoffbeat_20090406082210

Can you believe that a dog can swim 5 nautical miles? Thats almost 6 miles for those of you who aren't math-friendly. The family thought the poor little guy was gone forever but he swam to shore, ate wild goats, and barked SOS for 4 months. When his owners came to get him he was so happy to see them that he almost knocked them over. What an adorable story! Yay for happy endings.

On a similar note, Little Teddys dad is away for about 2 weeks. I bet he'll get pummeled when he comes home! He wants to say hi and that he misses you (picture above).

Sunday Funday

Teddy and Little Teddy went to the dog park today. The weather was beautiful, the trees were blooming, and there were more dogs swimming today than ever before. Ironically, the best swimmer was a little Puggle! He was smaller than every dog there but had the most energy and the most determination of all of the dogs. He reminded me of that poster we've all seen with the litttle tabby cat looking at himself in the mirror and seeing his reflection as a lion. Dogs can teach humans some important life lessons in addition to providing us with a wagging tail to come home to. Take a moment to paws and reflect, what has your dog taught you?

Schoooooollllls out for Summmmmer

Teddy, or Little Teddy as we like to call him, is a ridiculously cute chocolate lab puppy who is only a few months younger than my dog, also named Teddy. Little Teddy keeps me on my toes with his rough-and-tumble antics and passion for gutting stuffed animals. He recently lost his puppy teeth and...drumroll please........ graduated from puppy school. Congrats Teddy!!!!

Thursday, April 2, 2009

Teddy is a dog that thinks he is a baby. I carried him around like a baby until he was 40 pounds. He has his own toy bin with 40+ toys and a pretty kick-ass Harley Davidson collar to toughen him up. He loves ice cubes, swimming, chasing cats, smelling things that smell, and sleeping until noon. Teddy is our only dog but he has many dog friends. This blog is dedicated to those dogs who are friends with Teddy and those that stole my heart. I love dogs. And cookies.

I thought it would be a nice idea to post pictures for clients and friends so you all can keep a virtual eye on your dogs' day. That is the reason for this blog, so you can enjoy the pictures each day and rest easy knowing your dog is happy and well-taken care of while you are away.
